Account Planner / Strategist

The Role 

The Strategist is a key player within the agency who holds a valuable role in supporting KERN’s success. Working with other strategic counterparts, he/she is responsible for understanding the client’s target audience and viewing the communications through the consumer’s POV while collaborating with account management, creative, strategy and IT to identify and deliver strategic campaigns that solve our clients’ business needs.

As a key team member within the strategy department, the Strategist will report directly to the Director of Strategy.

The Responsibilities:

Strategic and critical thinker who is highly informed and curious about consumer’s behaviors, needs, wants, and expectations from our client’s brands. He/she will utilize their solid foundation of consumer and industry research to uncover and apply key insights that advises the creative, account and client on the optimal strategic marketing approach.

1. Strategy:

  • Effectively plan and deliver integrated channel marketing strategies to help our clients reach their goals using strong rational from:
  • Analytics and social research
  • Historical relevance from past campaigns
  • Industry knowledge (Financial Services, Entertainment, Telecom)
  • Consumer behavior
  • Micro and Macro trends

2. Research and Analytics:

  • Execute quantitative and qualitative research using a variety of research tools and working with our analytics team to discover insights that can be utilized in the creation of strategies to support Direct Marketing, Digital, and integrated campaigns.
  • Frequent client requests involve making sense of current movements in:
  • Industry: regulatory, innovation, M&A.
  • Consumer purchase behavior
  • Product innovation and positioning
  • Macro trends influencing social behavior

3. Big Plus:

  • Working knowledge of Social Listening tools
  • Small and big data experience
  • Regular reader of academic and/or business publications

4. Creative and Tech:

  • Collaborate with and provide the Creative and Account teams with a clearly defined direction on product, audience and industry insights so that they can develop creative ideas applicable to client needs.
  • Work in the development and approval of creative briefs
  • Write relevant and timely use cases
  • Utilize existing personalization and CRM solutions to drive ideation and support creative with innovative ideas

5. Requirements:

B.S. in psychology, sociology, or marketing…humanities background a plus. MBAs welcomed

  • Excellent research and analytical thinking skills
  • Keeps abreast of the latest technology, economy, politics, and cultural shifts that are impacting today’s society. Entertainment experience and interest a plus.
  • Inquisitive and passionate about solving client’s business challenges
  • Innovative and creative thinker. Thinks outside of the box but can refine the strategy to what can be accomplished within the client’s time frame and budget.
  • Strong presentation and people skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Resourceful and can work in a team or independently
  • Excellent project and time management skills to meet critical deadlines
